Innovation and access platform (i+a)

Worldwide many non-governmental organizations are working to improve access to medicine for developing countries. Some organizations agree that the current global system for financing R&D for new medicines, based on stimulating private sector R&D by using intellectual property regimes, must be reformed.
These organizations decided to cooperate as an i+a platform: innovation plus access. We need innovation, but people must get access to these innovations. So we call upon the WHO IGWG on Public Health, Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights to take steps to endorse a new paradigm that addresses the public interest in both innovation and access.
